Mark Cox is based in Carmarthen. A self-taught water-colourist he now works mainly in oils and acrylics. Mark is an eclectic artist working on a variety of subjects from purely abstract paintings, landscapes and still life to portraits. Mark has exhibited in Mid and South West Wales, and Bristol and his work has been sent as far as Australia and USA.

Despite having been painting for a number of years Mark has taken time out to study for a degree in fine art. “Although basically self taught, I have found that study has broadened my understanding of art and indirectly improved my technique. I am particularly interested in the form and colour within a painting. That is not to say that all my paintings are purely exoteric but there is normally a figurative element in them.

I am inspired by the landscape and people of Wales and most of my painting is done here. My main influences have been David Cox, the Pre-Raphaelites, Turner, and Constable, although there are many artists whose work I admire including Picasso, van Dongen and Modigliani. My favourite painting is Whistlejacket by Stubbs in the National Gallery.”
