Michael
passionately paints in acrylic and oil, using vibrant and
emotional colours in a bold and direct style. He is especially
interested and intrigued by the effect that one colour has
on another and he exploits this by using many layers of colour,
sometimes using areas of broken solid colour and semi-transparent
glazes, gradually building the desired effect and producing
impressionistic, semi-abstract and abstract paintings. He
is very much inspired by the effect that the elements have
on a landscape, sea and sky and also his Christian spirituality.
His emotional response and creative imagination dictate the
mood and degree of abstraction in each painting.

Michael's
style of working demonstrates a passion and enthusiasm that
transcends the material: atmospheres created by light, colour,
texture and movement, combined with the use of natural elements
and sometimes spiritual symbolism raise challenging personal
questions, and reflect his feelings, thoughts and emotions
for things beyond the obviously visible.
Over the
years, Michael has been inspired by a wide range of artists
from the renaissance to the contemporary.
Michael
lives on the edge of the Brecon Beacons, and near to the West
Wales coast in Carmarthenshire. He has worked as a professional
artist for over twenty five years. As a young man, he studied
art and he holds a diploma in art and design. However, after
more than thirty years of travelling the world, painting,
sculpting and studying, he prefers to consider himself to
be “self taught”. Throughout this time Michael
also worked as a sculptor working in wood. He is internationally
known; having exhibited throughout the UK and parts of Europe
and his work is in collections worldwide. Two notable commissions
being for: - Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and Her Majesty
the Queen Mother.
