“Having
enjoyed handling fabrics as a child, I had the opportunity
to use other materials - clay, paint and constructions - while
studying Art, Craft and Design at Trinity College, Carmarthen.
I graduated in 2000.
“My work is based on a number of themes. Using flowers
and the landscapes of West Wales as a catalyst, I enjoy reflecting
my love of colour and surfaces in paint and other media. The
rhythmical shape of the flower is extended to the female form.
These organic shapes reflect the inner self, the breath in
our bodies and the aura that surrounds us.
“My current work, entitled “Celebration”
and “Coloured Symbols”, evokes the symbolic meaning
of shapes and colours, crossing both Celtic and Asian cultures.
It is a celebration to the on-going cycle of nature. The small
series, “Little Treasures” explores the idea that
all that has gone before us make us who we are today; that
colour and texture can fill each image with an innate truth
of who we are.
“Whilst developing my painting skills, I enjoy using
a variety of other media: textiles, beads, waxes and metals.
I am experimental in my approach and relish “playing”
with new media.”
